Updates From Rifle

Tami, Richard, Phil K., Thor, & Gale held a teleconference to discuss some important issues facing the FMF. Tami has agreed to host the next conclave. It is assumed that this means the 1998 conclave will be held in Colorado once again.

Discussion was held about the proposed changes to the FMF Bylaws as initiated at this summers conclave. In connection to these changes all of the founding directors resigned and their positions will be removed from the bylaws.

It was noted that book sales of TMP have dropping off recently. The group biefly discussed how this might negatively affect FMF membership growth. It was noted that a new means for getting word out to the public about the FMF was needed. One idea proposed was to give copies of Marshall's book to local public libraries in order to reach the largest numbers of people with less investment.

SEE Review

Since Gale was not able to make it to the Sam's apartment, we contacted him on the speaker phone and carried on a conference call for our SEE update.

Gale contacted the electric company and inquired about getting an electric meter and poll brought onto the site. This was an important contact to have made.

The phone compnay was also contacted, but they refused to discuss serviceing of the area with the necessary utilities before an official mailing address was assigned to the site. The customer service representaive at the phone company was kind enough to tell Gale who to contact about finding the necessary address. It turned out that no name was yet assigned to the street and Gale was told that he could come up with a name for it since his site is the first to need one. This was briefly discussed on the FMF-LBC discussion list and by popular demand it was decided that the street would be called "Millennial Way".

The local volunteer fire department was called and Gale learned from the chief that the site was too remote for an adequet response in case of emergency. It therefore becomes necessary for us to provide fire protection for ourselves. Because of this we plan to use as many fire resitant building materials as possible including metal roofs, alluminum siding, fire breaks and increased spacing between the buildings to prevent the spreading of fire. It was also noted that Jodi (a potential settler) has voiced her desire to join the volunteer fire dept. both to gain fire training and to be a friendly face working in the community.

Business Basics

For this month's business basics, Sam handed out an article about a business man, Jim Collins, who consults other companies on how to improve their way of functioning. One of the main issues is to come up with a Buisness Goal Statement which will lead the company to success. As an activity Sam suggested that we each spend some time before the next meeting to come up with a personal Goal Statement & Mechanism for ourselves

New Business

Organize Christmas party for December 14 or 21. We will need to find a plce to host the party and create and send invitations to FMF members to inform them of the time and place.

Next Meeting

The next Tri-State Chapter meeting was scheduled for November 23rd, 1997.
